Cline’s Viognier offers rich and distinctive aromas of pears, apricots, orange blossoms and honeysuckle. It has a blockbuster flavor and full-body mouth-feel.
Up until the 1970s the Sonoma Coast region was dairy, sheep and cattle country. It is now considered a very cool grape growing region and has gained a worldwide reputation for producing very high-quality wine.
We grow this Viognier within this cool Sonoma Coast AVA. Viognier is sensitive to its surroundings; the grapes are late ripening and have to be picked at just the right moment. One hundred percent of the grapes for this wine come from our Sonoma Coast vineyards where they are bathed in early morning fog and later warmed by the afternoon sun. The soil is rich in minerals and rarely needs irrigation.
Grapes for our 2017 Estate Viognier were handpicked and de-stemmed without being crushed and immediately pumped to our tank press where the juice was gently squeezed from the grapes. The juice was then pumped to a stainless steel tank where it was chilled and settled overnight, then racked and inoculated with a pure strain of wine yeast. Fermentation proceeded at a cool 50°F. We chose stainless steel tanks and neutral barrels in order to let Viognier’s flavorful fruit characters shine through without complications. Once fermentation was completed the lots were carefully selected and blended to produce this outstanding Estate Viognier.
