This vineyard has always shown intense concentration of flavors due, in part, to the miniscule yields we receive. Tobacco, plum, and eucalyptus-mint dominate this wine with plenty of flesh and a firm balanced structure of acid and fine-grained tannins.
100-year-old Oakley vineyards are dry-farmed and head-pruned as they were a century ago. Hot sun, sandy soil, and cool evening air from the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers produce a stunning, concentrated harvest. The Big Break vineyard was chosen for this wine, for the light crop of grapes that ripened and dehydrated.
Natural yeast was used for complexity. Three weeks of fermentation, then stored in 30% new French oak barrels, allowing the fruit flavors show through without being masked by the oak.
