Grenache Vin Gris
Our Grenache Vin Gris is a special and unique wine made from grenache grown on our J. Poppe Estate vineyards in Carneros. We craft this wine as a "Blanc de Noir," meaning it's made from red grapes but results in a wine with the appearance and flavor profile of a white wine due to minimal color extraction. This Grenache Vin Gris is a delightful wine with complex aromas, flavors and refreshing character. The tropical and citrus fruits burst on the palate with refreshing acidity and a rich, rounded texture lead to a long finish.
Viognier
This Viognier is sourced exclusively from our estate vineyard, named after J. Poppe, who constructed our tasting room in the 1850s. Planted in 1991, this block resides on one of the steepest slopes of the vineyard, adjacent to our Syrah vines, following the classic Rhone tradition. Facing east, it basks in the early morning sun, ensuring the fruit remains clean and flavorful while shielding it from the intense afternoon heat. This extended exposure allows for a prolonged ripening period and enhances the development of deep flavors. The result is a stunning Viognier, expressing notes of tropical fruit salad, melange of mango, melon and pear, with beautiful richness and texture.

Live Oak Zinfandel
Coming soon!
Our single vineyard Live Oak Zinfandel is named for Live Oak Road in Oakley, California. The vineyard is adjacent to this road and consistently produces some of our most complex, concentrated and unique lots of Zinfandel. Cline Cellars has chosen to dry-farm the ancient, head-pruned vines, a practice employed by the Italian and Portuguese immigrants who planted this vineyard well before the turn of the century. This wine is a classic example of the complex Zinfandels, for which Cline Cellars has become known and which are a result of the warm climate of Contra Costa County. The wine delivers rich berry flavors, with notes of sweet spice and ample tannin. This well-balanced and lively wine mingles structure, acidity and fine-grained tannins perfectly, culminating in a long and lingering finish.
Big Break Zinfandel
Big Break Vineyard was named after a 1928 break in the levee that flooded the local farmland in Oakley, California. This area typically produces impressive and distinctive lots of Zinfandel. The combination of the extremely sandy, well-drained soils, dry-farmed, century-old, head-trained vines, and the unique band of cooling air from the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers flavor Oakley's best vineyard sites. This block of land, situated between the San Joaquin River and a Eucalyptus grove, enhances the wine by adding a slightly minty characteristic. The combination of the aforementioned creates a synergy of elements that are ideal for both ripening, as well as expressing the full character of Zinfandel grapes.
Big Break Grenache
The quality of the fruit from our Big Break Vineyard is exceptional. It is rare that one finds Grenache grapes that develop this depth of color. The flavors that follow are intense, including tart cherry and a tasty vanilla oak, with Eucalyptus mint adding a unique touch that makes this Grenache a stand-out. Coming from the same vineyard as our Big Break Zinfandel, this grenache has a similar depth of character, however these vines are newer than their zinfandel counterparts. Planted about 40 years ago, these vines still offer a ton of energy and vibrancy in the final wine.
J Poppe Syrah
Our Syrah is grown at our J. Poppe Estate vineyard located just to the west of the winery, perched on a small, 18-acre hillside that offers commanding views of the Carneros wetlands. It is ideally situated for growing world-class cool climate Syrah. These grapes receive cooling benefits from morning fog and afternoon breezes from the nearby Pacific Ocean and San Pablo Bay. The rugged hillside is meticulously tended by hand and yields spectacular fruit year after year. This is a powerful wine with big flavors and firm tannins, the wine is extremely concentrated with a tight core of blackberry, plum and raspberry flavors and loads of spice.
Lucchesi Petite Sirah
Our Petite Sirah is made from grapes grown on the 3 acre Lucchesi Vineyard in Oakley, California. Named after our vineyard manager in the area and his dedication to preserving the ancient vines of Contra Costa County. Contra Costa County is known for its hot & dry climate that is by the unique band of cooling air from the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers. Planted in deep, sand-soil and dry farmed, this 45 year old vineyard provides us with an intensity and richness that yields our highest quality Petite Sirah grapes. This is a big and flavorful wine that can be enjoyed by itself or paired with hearty food. On the palate are rich, bold tannins that compliment berry and mocha flavors and smooth acidity.
Small Berry Mourvèdre
The vineyard where the Small Berry Mourvèdre grows is a small acreage block that consistently produces one of our most complex and concentrated Mourvèdres. Vines in this block were first planted in 1910 and are on their own roots, which make this one of California’s most historic vineyards. The vines have survived because they grow in the deep delta sands which keeps the phylloxera root louse in check. Winds from the delta, which borders the vineyard to the north, help slow grape ripening and retain acidity. This vineyard has always provided an intense concentration of flavors, due in part to the small yield that we receive. Silky texture with plum, currant, and dark berry compote characters dominate and lead to a long and lush finish.
